Many people dream of having a fishpond to enhance their outdoor space, but often hesitate, believing they’re too complicated or high maintenance. The good news? They don’t have to be! While Koi ponds, with their large, costly fish and intricate systems, can be challenging, a simpler option—such as a goldfish pond—can be just as enjoyable and far easier to manage.
Goldfish ponds offer a budget-friendly alternative that’s both low-maintenance and rewarding. Unlike Koi, feeder goldfish from pet stores are affordable and easy to replace should a predator pay an unwelcome visit. These lively little swimmers add charm and activity to any garden.
The key to a thriving fishpond lies in maintaining clear water, and that’s where an effective biofilter comes in. Incorporating a biofilter into your pond design is essential, as it removes waste and ensures a healthy environment for your fish. Better yet, many aquatic plants flourish in biofilter trays, further contributing to water clarity by breaking down trapped debris and enriching the ecosystem.
With the right setup, you can create a serene, beautiful pond without the complexities or cost often associated with Koi ponds. A simple goldfish pond could be the perfect way to bring life and tranquility to your garden.
Sculpted flagstone is an exceptionally attractive and practical choice for driveways, patios, and walkways. At Natural Design, sculpted flagstone has been our trusted, signature finish for all faux rock flatwork for over 50 years.
It’s also the preferred finish for our swimming pool decks, as it seamlessly blends into the natural landscape while remaining both stylish and highly functional.
Waterfalls into swimming pools come in a variety of styles, each offering a unique beauty and atmosphere. Faux rock waterfalls, crafted with sculpted structural concrete, often look even more natural than real rock that is stacked and mortared to build a waterfall. This is because skilled sculptors can design these features to resemble organic rock formations as they might occur in nature.
At Natural Design, our signature waterfall element is the cantilever rock. This design creates the illusion of a massive, flat boulder extending dramatically over the pool’s surface. As water cascades over this rock and drops directly into the pool from heights of 4 to 5 feet, the visual effect is stunning.
Beyond its striking appearance, the cantilever rock doubles as a practical feature: it forms an excellent ledge for diving or jumping into the pool. Additionally, with a submerged bench placed beneath the waterfall, swimmers can sit under the flowing water and enjoy the exhilarating sensation of water splashing over their heads—a thrilling experience for both kids and adults alike.
Most of our sculpted faux rock is created from solid structural concrete, however at times hollow structures are a more cost-effective method, if the purpose is simply decorative. This construction sequence shows the building of several non-structural hollow boulders to add interest to an entryway. Large boulders or rock formations are often the center piece that makes landscape distinctive. If the correct natural boulders are not available, then sculpted faux rock may be a solution.
